Coach Tata Martino, without a club since leaving Inter Miami in December, does not intend to take on new challenges in the coming months. The Argentine was evaluated by Botafogo, by John Texor, as a substitute for Artur Jorge.
In an interview with Radio Monumental AM 1080 of Argentina, Tata spoke about the reasons.
– I don’t like to talk about proposals. The important thing is to say whether the proposals are realized. In this case, I will not work there (Botafogo), so it does not make much sense to say whether or not there was a proposal – he said.
– That’s what I said when I left Inter. I need to be in Rosario. I made the decision not to be active for a few months, and that’s what will happen. There is no possibility that I am working in the short term, ”said Martino.
At the time of the US club’s resignation, the coach claimed personal reasons for abdicating the post and was replaced by Javier Mascherano.
Tata, who has already directed the teams of Argentina, Mexico and Paraguay, as well as Barcelona, had been in Inter Miami since June 2023. He won two titles for the club, Leavedos Cup 2023 and the supporters Shield 2024, which is the first phase of Major League Soccer.
Currently, Botafogo is commanded by interim Carlos Leiria.

In John Textor’s target: Who can train Botafogo?
With Tata Martino’s “no”, Botafogo’s board works with two other names to assume the glorious: Portuguese Vasco Matos and Spanish Rafa Benítez, according to “GE.Globo”.
Vasco Matos, 44, is part of the new generation of Portuguese technicians. Currently, he runs the Modesto Santa Clara, from Azores, which is in the fifth place of the Portugal League.
In season 2023/24, he was champion of the Portuguese second division. In addition to Santa, he worked in Vilafranquense, Alverca, Casa Pia and Santa Clara.
Rafa Benítez is also probed at the Club of General Severiano. The 64 -year -old Spaniard accumulates tickets for Real Madrid, Liverpool, Chelsea, Napoli, Inter Milan, among other premier League and La Liga clubs.
Champion of the Club World Cup and the Champions League, his last club was Celta de Vigo, from Spain. He was fired in March 2024 and since then he has not taken over another team.
