184.9 billion inoportune calls were blocked between June 2022 and December 2024, according to Anatel

A document from Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency) delivered to CDust (Telecommunications Service Users Committee) points out that Brazilians receive more than 1 billion connections per month.

According to the telecommunications agency, 184.9 billion unwanted calls were blocked between June 2022 and December 2024. Anatel monitors a 26 operators network in a practice to prevent unhappy calls. The information was released by S.Paulo Folha.

In the last 7 months of 2023 there were 76.11 billion blocked abusive telemarketing calls. In the first 7 months of 2024, the number of blocked calls rose to 82.52 billion. In the report presented by Anatel, there is no monthly information for the first months of 2023, nor in the months after July last year.

Inoportune connection blocking measures had an efficiency of 85%, according to Anatel. The other 15% calls reach Brazilian users. Abusive telemarketing happens when a company performs, with the aid of robots, a minimum of 100,000 calls daily.

If there is no immediate response required for the call to be redirected to a recorded message or an attendant, the automated connection is interrupted. This type of call lasts about 6 seconds, according to Anatel.

A Truecaller survey in 2021 pointed out that each phone in Brazil receives about 32.9 inoportune bonds per month. Considering that at the time of the survey there were 268 million active telephone lines, more than 10 billion monthly calls would be a whole.

Also according to the agency, calls offering products or services are classified as abusive telemarketing. Change calls do not enter this category. Anatel does not consider Truecaller’s estimate as correct as the agency does not consider all abusive telemarketing connections, only those that meet the organ’s criteria.

Anatel launched the platform in 2019 to avoid abusive telemarketing. The agency also instituted the obligation to use the prefix 0303 by the companies that make this type of call, so that the consumer can identify the connection.
