The common horsetail is a small silvery insect that can appear in our bathroom or kitchen. He does not enjoy people’s sympathy and there are specific reasons for this.
Common sea bream (fish) they live in symbiosis with humans and do not harm them. Despite this, they are generally considered a pest. Here’s what you need to know about horseradish.
Flashes in bathrooms – what you should know about them
It is worth knowing that bedbugs appear in bathrooms, regardless of the level of hygiene we maintain. They don’t feed on dirt, so they don’t care how often and thoroughly we clean. They appear in old buildings as well as in new apartment buildings and family houses.
Although they are generally harmless to humans, they are treated as pests. This is due to the fact that they like to feed on cellulose, so they can wreak havoc on wallpapers, for example.
When sedges appear in our bathroom, it is worth checking that we have a properly functioning ventilation system. These insects choose places with high humidity as their habitats, therefore, its appearance in the bathroom can be a signal warning of too high air humidity in the apartment.
If we do not dry the room, sooner or later we can expect mold or even fungi to appear on the walls.
Ordinary swiftlets
Their food is starch and polysaccharides, so sugar, glue and dead insects will interest them. Common sedges also have the ability to digest cellulose, therefore they also willingly eat paper. They can consume the wallpaper along with the glue that attaches it to the walls.
They appear mainly in bathrooms, but not only that, they can also be found in kitchens and interestingly, they can also appear in bakeries and other humid and warm spaces, where they find food for themselves. They can reach a length of 7 to 10 millimeters. They are safe for humans, do not bite and do not spread diseases.
They feed exclusively in the dark and are afraid of light. Thanks to their nocturnal way of life, they can live under the same roof with people for quite a long time and remain unnoticed. They live up to eight years and can last up to a year without food. Their natural enemies include: spiders and cats.
Fish trap
When we notice the presence of these unwanted tenants in our apartment, a fish trap can help. We can make it ourselves. How?
- You just need to take a piece of cardboard, cover it with honey and place it on the spot where the peonies will appear. Insects are attracted to both cardboard and honey because they are their favorite treats. However, once the persimmon touches the honey, it will no longer be able to leave the trap.
Another homemade trap will work similarly.
- All you need is a mason jar, adhesive tape, a little sugar, and the trap is ready. The cup should be carefully taped or plastered – it is important that it is fully taped, as the rough surface will allow gnats to get inside.
- Pour some sugar at the bottom of the container and place the prepared trap in the bathroom. Attracted by the sweet bait, insects climb the rough surface but cannot get out of the smooth interior of the container.
- Of course, we can also buy one of the many ready-made traps for sedges in a store with household chemicals. Their operation is based on the same principle: they are equipped with substances that attract insects and are safe to use.
How to get rid of henna?
People who have noticed these insects in their homes ask how to get rid of henna. Using a trap, whether homemade or purchased, can help with this, but remember that the problem is more complex.
Even if the appearance of small fish does not indicate dirt, it is worth first cleaning the places where we can meet these insects. It is also necessary to reduce the level of air humidity, which affects the appearance and reproduction of henna.
- Consider not drying laundry in the bathroom – if we cannot use the balcony or terrace, place the dryer in a room with better ventilation or use an electric device.
- Let’s take care of regular ventilation of the bathroom, let’s limit the amount of textiles in it and wash towels as often as possible.
- Let’s make sure that the bathroom is well lit. Let’s try to remove all the spaces where the peonies could feel safe, anti-fungal silicone can be helpful.
You can use chemicals, for example, to fight with sedges borax (safe for humans, poison for pets) or permethrin (it affects our health), products with deltamethrin, cypermethrin or piperonyl butoxide can help.
Fish successfully repel the strong aromas of spices (cinnamon, clove, lavender, sage, rosemary) and essential oils (e.g. tea tree). Therefore, when cleaning, it is worthwhile to wipe the surfaces with a solution of vinegar, citric acid or natural essential oils.
