The ship Cassiopeia, of the Italian navy, is transporting forty-nine asylum seekers to the two closed centers in the north. The ship set sail today at noon from the sea area of Lampedusa and is expected to arrive in Albania on Tuesday morning.
The patrol ship Cassiopeia has been off the coast of Lampedusa since Friday and in a first phase, eleven people had boarded it.
It is the third transfer of asylum seekers from the facilities of Giarder and Sangin, in Albania.
The two previous operations had taken place in October and November 2024, but the court in Rome had not validated the temporary detention of the migrants who, after a few days, had been transferred back to Italy.
