Perhaps the New Year and a new ship will bring better luck to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and her Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, who is responsible for migration: At the weekend, the Italian navy boat Cassiopea set course for the Albanian port city of Shengjin. On board: 49 migrants from Egypt, Bangladesh, Gambia and Ivory Coast who were previously intercepted or rescued on the Mediterranean. From the reception center in Shengjin, the migrants are then taken to the deportation camp in the town of Gjader, 20 kilometers away. There they will be subjected to a rapid asylum procedure that should last a maximum of 30 days.
