Rebels supported by Rwanda marched to the center of the largest city in East of Congo on Monday, according to witnesses, in the latest climbing of decades of conflict in a region that already suffers one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world.

The rebel alliance, led by Tutsi’s M23 militia, said he had captured the whole city by the lake, but this could not be confirmed independently.

There were shots of fire near the airport, city center and border with Rwanda, with two residents reporting continuous clashes between the government -aligned militia and the M23 combatants.
