Officer Richard Craig was at the scene of a bus accident in the middle of a snowstorm, making it impossible to even walk, in the middle of January in Indiana when he saw a food delivery driver trudging through the snow, panting and holding a bag of empty pizza
“It was shocking to me, the roads were almost impassable,” said Craig, a police officer in Avon, Indiana, according to the outlet. . “I can’t believe this kid is doing this. I have to record it, because no one is going to believe what I see,” he thought at the time.
Craig approached the delivery driver, Connor Stefanoff, 20, who works at Rockstar Pizza in Brownsburg, Indiana. This is how he found out that the 20-year-old had walked almost a kilometer in the snowstorm from his car to complete a delivery of a $40 pizza, since the road was blocked due to the accident.
“Did you get at least a good tip?” the police officer asked Connor Stefanoff, to which the young man responded “two dollars.” Faced with this response, the police officer could only reply with: “Are you kidding?” The tip for a pizza delivery person in the United States is 15 to 20% of the cost of the order, and people usually tip more for large orders and especially during inclement weather.
“This man went through hell to deliver a pizza,” the police officer reflected when uploading a video to TikTok. “It pissed me off,” Craig told The Washington Postwho described the neighborhood where Stefanoff made the delivery as “very affluent.” Upon learning what he was tipped, the officer ran to his car to grab the cash he had in his wallet (about $15) and gave it to the 20-year-old to add to the small tip he received.
Stefanoff, however, soon found a greater reward. After Craig posted the video, people were as outraged as he was and asked for donations. So the agent decided to start a ‘GoFundMe’ campaign to raise tips for the young man. And although he set a goal of $500, he managed to raise more than $29,300 (about 28,000 euros).
