This is how you wake up geraniums from winter dormancy. Apple peels will come in handy

Geraniums are very popular. This should not be surprising, because when they bloom, they can decorate a balcony or garden beautifully and colorfully. When growing them, it is worth remembering that they are perennial and can be overwintered. People who have decided to undergo this procedure should start waking them up from winter rest now. However, we need to know how to do it properly and how to prepare geraniums for the season. Homemade peel conditioner can help us with this.

Reviving geraniums must be done at the right time. Now is the best time to do it because experienced gardeners recommend doing this in the second half of January or early February.

Thanks to this, the plants will have a sufficiently long adaptation time, which will allow them to prepare well for the new season. In order to awaken geraniums from winter rest, we must: follow these steps:

  • Gradually increasing the temperature – we move the geraniums to a warmer room where the temperature is between 10-15 degrees Celsius.
  • Access to light – pots should be placed close to the window so that the geraniums have access to natural light. It is also worth using illuminating lamps.
  • Watering – we gradually increase the frequency of watering our plants, controlling their growing demand for it. However, remember not to overwater the geraniums.

Before the season, it is also very important to strengthen our geraniums so that they can bloom profusely later. A simple and natural way to nourish plants while waking up is to create homemade fertilizer from apple peelings.

They will provide our geraniums with the necessary nutrients, including: potassium, which supports flowering. In addition, they contain valuable microelements that will improve the condition of the soil. Preparing this natural fertilizer is extremely simple.

All you need to do is place the apple peels in a jar. Then pour a liter of water over them. Close the jar, but not completely, to allow the fermentation process. Store the container with the mixture in a dark place for several days. The next step is to dilute the liquid with water in a 1:1 ratio. So prepared we can water geraniums once a month.

In March and April, our awakened geraniums will look great. However, this does not mean that we should take them outside immediately. The flowers are very sensitive to night frosts and large temperature changes. Therefore, it is worth refraining from moving pots.

This should be done only in mid-May, when the risk of frost has passed. If we plan to transplant geraniums into the ground, it is worth trimming their roots. Thanks to this, we will stimulate the plants to grow even more.
