Federal deputy Marcel van Hattem (Novo-RS) will be a candidate for president of , in an election scheduled for next Saturday (1st).
The objective is to present a name from outside the government base. The other two candidates already announced are Pastor Henrique Vieira (PSOL-RJ).
“We are not comfortable with the fact that we only have two candidates launched, one from the centrão and the other from PSOL. The opposition needs to have an option, as I understand that we cannot remain in the hands of the same groups that have dominated the Chamber and the Senate so many years ago,” says Van Hattem.
“There is no clarity about which opposition proposals will actually be implemented by Hugo Motta if, in fact, he is elected. And, when someone has the support of the PT, I am automatically on the back foot”, he adds.
The deputy’s candidacy He has already contested in 2019, 2021 and 2023, with the same intention.
It is likely, however, that the Novo parliamentarian will receive support from Bolsonarist and conservative deputies, from parties such as PL, PP and even Republicans, although these parties are committed to Motta’s candidacy. Voting in the election for the presidency of the Chamber is secret.

Novo has also announced that it will have a candidate for president of the Senate, where it launched Eduardo Girão (CE). Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), however, has broad favoritism.
