A survey by the locomotive institute points out that 79% of Paulistanos consider that the city of São Paulo should allow the transportation of people in. The number corresponds to 7.1 million citizens. On the other hand, 21% believe that the sport should not be allowed. The survey was conducted between January 17 and 20 and listened to 2,048 residents of São Paulo. Of the percentage favorable to permission, 60% prefer the decision to be accompanied by a regulatory proposal, while 19% would like to release regardless of regulation. The mayor (MDB) has entered a war with the company 99 in recent weeks.
The friction was due to the launch of the service on its platform despite Decree 62.144/23, made by the emedebista in 2023, which temporarily suspended the use of motorcycles for paid passenger transport by application. A few days ago, it also launched the activity after the court prevents the competitor from being fined. “We will not allow this company to come here and make a carnage. They are killers. These companies are murderous and irresponsible companies, ”Nunes said last week. The municipal management even filed a public civil action requesting a daily fine of R $ 1 million and compensation of R $ 50 million for collective moral damages and crime of disobedience.
According to the survey, when asked if “before making any decision on the transportation of people on motorcycle by application the rulers should hear the population,” the percentage is even greater: 86% say they agree with the sentence. In addition, for 65% of respondents police should not be used to prevent motorcyclists from using application to transport people. São Paulo City Hall reported that another 100 bikes have already been seized by the beginning of the week. Regarding the Legislature, 72% believe that councilors in the city of São Paulo should support the motorcycle by application as another transportation alternative available in the city.
In recent days, the most voted councilman in the 2024 elections, Lucas Pavanato (PL), has acquired a protagonism among motorcyclists when performing demonstration in front of Anhangabaú Palace and even presented a bill against the mayor’s stance. “Paulistanos are the main ones affected by the offer of transportation services, especially those living in regions that are difficult to access traditional means of transport. That’s why the population is asking for more dialogue and listening ”, reinforces the president of the Locomotive Institute, Renato Meirelles.
The locomotive survey also points out that 74% of Paulistanos agree that rulers should not prevent people from using motorcycle transportation service via application. It is important to note that 54% fully agree with the issue and 20% partially agree. There is no clarification on what would be the reasons for the bias of respondents.
