Four men were identified and constituted defendants by the PSP on suspicion of theft and receiving the Furtado olive oil, a week ago, from the Food Bank facilities against the hunger (BACF) of Beja.
In a statement, the PSP District Command revealed that the four suspects, between 20 and 62, were identified following due diligence developed by their criminal investigation teams.
“Of the search performed at the home of one of the suspects, it was possible to grasp part of the [produto do] Theft, namely carboys of olive oil I had kept for its consumption, ”police said in the statement.
According to this safety force, the rest of the theft was sold in “several locations in southern Portugal”.
Contacted by the Lusa Agency, a source of PSP de Beja needed men to live in a neighborhood of the city and have familiar ties to each other.
Two of the suspects were identified and constituted defendants for theft and the other two for receiving, he said.
After theft, the olive oil was sold to others in the areas of Portimão, in the district of Faro, and Barreiro, in Setúbal, mentioned the same source, noting that, in the search to a house, three carboys of three liters were found .
The suspects were constituted defendants and the case was sent to the prosecutor, while the PSP continues the investigation to try to recover the remaining olive oil, the source added.
In theft at the facilities of the BACF de Beja, which occurred at dawn on the 20th of this month, 600 liters of olive oil were taken that had recently been donated by companies in the region, in an estimated five thousand euros.
At the time, the president of, José Tadeu Freitas, said the institution was “without olive oil to deliver to the approximately four thousand people who are supported every month.”
“The robberies are always bad, whoever it is, but for us this is even worse, because it is stealing the food of those who need,” said the official.
