The governor of São Paulo (Republicans), and the mayor of the state capital, (MDB), must meet the candidate for the presidency of the House (Republicans-PB) on the night of Monday (27). The meeting is marked in a pizzeria in the Higienópolis neighborhood, in São Paulo, and will be attended by political leaders. According to Tarcisio, the São Paulo bench “is closed” with Motta’s candidacy. According to him, the purpose of the event is to present demands and projects, as well as “pave a path” for future debates.

“It is a way for the São Paulo bench to show appreciation and that is with this project, which must be a successful candidacy,” said the governor meeting with journalists. Ricardo Nunes, confirming his presence at dinner, stressed the importance of the partnership between Congress and the municipalities. “We always depend a lot on the House of Representatives in the actions of interest of the State and the City Hall,” said the mayor. The event was organized by Deputy Maurício Neves (PP), state president of Progressives, and also features Marcos Pereira, President of Republicans, and Arnaldo Jardim, leader of citizenship.

These leaders are part of the broad arc of political support that Motta has been building in the dispute for the succession of Arthur Lira (PP-AL) in the presidency of the House. Hugo Motta has already secured the support of 17 benches, as well as having the public support of the current president of the house ,. The base of parties that declares support for the Paraíba deputy sums 488 parliamentarians, but the secret vote brings uncertainties about the fidelity of the members of these benches. Among Motta’s opponents in the dispute is Deputy Pastor Henrique Vieira (PSOL-RJ).

On Monday, Deputy Marcel Van Hattem (Novo-RS) officially announced his candidacy for the presidency of the House. Despite being wide favorite, Motta needs to secure at least 257 votes to win the election, scheduled for Saturday, February 1st.
