The UN confirmed the withdrawal date.
The United Nations (UN) confirmed on Tuesday that it received a notice of withdrawal from Washington. The withdrawal will come into effect on January 27, 2026. TASR informs this on the basis of AFP report.
“I can confirm that the United States has announced their UN Secretary -General (Antónius Guterres) as a depositary withdrawal from the Paris Agreement on January 27 this year,” said Guterres’s spokesman Stephane Dujarric.
“According to the second paragraph of Article 28 of the Paris Agreement, the US withdrawal will come into effect on January 27, 2026,” he added.
Withdrawal from the agreement was one of the key promises of US President Donald Trump during the election campaign. The aim of the Paris Agreement, which brings together almost all states of the world, is to maintain the growth of the average global temperature below the critical limit.
