German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Tuesday that the proposal to displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip is unacceptable. He responded to the weekend statement of US President Donald Trump, who proposed to move them to neighboring Egypt or Jordan. According to AFP, TASR writes about it.

“Given the recent public statements, I clearly say that any plans for resettlement, the proposal that Gaza citizens will be expelled to Egypt or Jordan, are unacceptable,” Scholz said at an event in Berlin.

Almost all 2.4 million inhabitants of the Gaza Strip were internally displaced as a result of the war, which began with the attack by the Palestinian militant group Hamas in Israel 7 October 2023. Most of Gaza is destroyed after intensive sharpening.

Trump said on Sunday that the inhabitants of the Palestinian enclave should move to Egypt and Jordan and “clear” this territory. He also said this idea on Monday. He told reporters that he wanted to, So that the Palestinians “live in an area where they can live without armor, revolution and violence”.

Trump’s idea for the resettlement of the Palestinians was rejected by Egypt, Jordan, Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas or Hamas. The League of Arab States (LaS) warned against “attempts to expulsive the Palestinian people from its territory.” Trump’s idea, however, was welcomed by the Israeli extreme right -wing finance minister Bezalel Smotrič, according to which this is a “great idea”.

In his speech, Scholz re-expressed support for a two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The German Chancellor is convinced that the Palestinian self -government based on the West Bank of Jordan should take responsibility for the Gaza band in the future.
