The weekend temperatures clearly showed that even in January, only frost still does not have to rule. And what about March or April. “When the sap wakes up prematurely, it is dangerous,” says Jana Bucharová in a podcast.
Play the Counseling Center not only about the whitening of the trees here:
The earlier onset of spring attracts the garden. But the trees are not ready for such a thing at all and not the fruit at all. In addition, the last frosts can come as suddenly as it happened last year in the middle of April. Solution? Protect them with a method that has been successfully used for hundreds of years. It is not expensive at all and you will have the work done in a single afternoon.
Is it necessary?
It depends on what trees are growing in your garden. “Older trees already have a strong bark, so they do not threaten a large protective layer and crack the bark,” explains Jana Bucharová, expert of the magazine Recipe for garden themes. “The most vulnerable are young cherries and other hits and apple trees.”
They do not mind the winter itself, but just the alternation of a warm sunny day, when the sap wakes up. And at night, with a drop in temperature, freezing under the bark. This can only cause the bark to crack. Pests, but also diseases or molds, can then be easier to get through the cracks.
Lime
It is against this that the tribes of fruit trees have been white for centuries. Previously, lime was used, or rather its solution with water. And even today you won’t make a mistake with him.
“But you can also use the special colors that are available today and are designed to whiten trees. Their advantage is that they are more resistant to abrasion and rain and it is possible that if you are charging trees in January, you will not have to overload them in spring. ”
Just a shadow
Whether for any reason you don’t want to whiten, or maybe you realized that you don’t have a color, except for the cottage, where you go again in a month, don’t give your head.
“Try the tree from where the sun is shining most, simply overshadowing,” the expert advises. “Just lean on the trunk, for sure to tie it.” Even the tree protects against temperature changes and will ensure a better view of good harvest.
