Argentina’s Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, announced on Tuesday (28) that the government of Javier Milei will reinforce controls on the border with Brazil.

The statement occurs amid a climate of tension between Argentina and the Bolivian government due to the installation of a fence on the border between the Argentine city of Salta and Bolivia.

During an interview, Bullrich highlighted the need to increase surveillance in the border areas, citing that many individuals can enter Argentina without going through immigration controls.

The minister mentioned that, just like on the border with Bolivia, there are points on the border with Brazil where control is poor. She did not rule out the possibility of building a new grid in the region.

“We will focus on the border mision with Brazil, where the traffic of people is intense,” said the minister, referring to the province of Misiones, which borders the three states of the southern Brazilian.

Bullrich stated that if necessary, new security measures will be implemented to ensure more effective border control. “If we identify other areas that need a grid, we will take the proper steps,” he added.

The security plan, which includes the construction of the border with Bolivia border, is part of the “Güemes Plan”, which aims to combat federal crimes in the region.

The construction of the fence generated reactions from the Bolivian government, which expressed concern about the measure.
