Honduras president, Xiomara Castro de Zelaya, announced on Wednesday (29) the cancellation of the emergency meeting of the Latin American and Caribbean states (Celac), called on Sunday (26) to discuss the deportations of immigrants in United States by Donald Trump’s new government.
“Cancelo the meeting of January 30, 2025, for lack of consensus. Attached is the official statement as Celac’s temporary president, ”Zelaya wrote in a publication on social network X.
The statement issued by the Honduras Foreign Affairs Secretariat, which currently assumes the bloc’s rotary presidency, mentions that Gustavo Petro, President Colombia, asked the meeting to treat Trump measures, but hours later “Colombia and the United States resolved the impasse” .
I cancel the meeting of January 30, 2025, due to the lack of consensus. I attach the official statement as president pro tempore de la CELAC.
