The NRP Figueira da Foz, a Portuguese Navy ship on a mission in the exclusive economic zone of the continent, held a kitersurf practitioner on Tuesday that faced difficulties to return the land off Lagos.
The incident occurred around 12:40, when the Kitesurf practitioner was identified in Lagos Bay to signal the need for aid. The wind was driving him away from the coast, already about a nautical mile of land, approximately 1852 meters, by the time he was collected aboard the ship.
After the rescue, he was assisted by the NRP Figueira da Foz health team and later transported in land security, where he was careful of the Port of Lagos Captaincy.
Ships play a vital role in surveillance and support to the National Search and Rescue System, ensuring a 24 -hour response throughout the year.
NRP Figueira da Foz, led by Captain-Lieutenant Pedro Quintela Marçal, has a garrison of 41 military and 4 aspiring internship officials. Since January 23, it has been on a mission in the exclusive economic zone of the continent, reinforcing safety and assistance in Portuguese waters.
