Customs of Belarus fertilizers should also apply.

On Tuesday, the European Commission (EC) proposed the introduction of tariffs for other agricultural products and some fertilizers imported from Russia and Belarus. The aim is to prevent a possible threat to EU food security. Measures would not be transit to third countries, TASR reports based on AFP and Reuters reports.

“These duties are expected to have a negative impact on Russian export income, thereby affecting Russia’s ability to wage its offensive war against Ukraine,” says the announcement of measures that still need the consent of the EU and the Euro Parliament.

Last year, the European Commission increased duties to import cereals from both countries. According to her, the new duties should concern Agrodovoz from Russia, which has not yet been subject to increased duties. Cutures on some nitrogen -based fertilizers would support domestic production and allow diversification of supplies from other countries, the EC said.

“Such imports, in particular fertilizers, makes the EU vulnerable to any possible pressure on Russia, and therefore poses a risk for EU food security,” the Commission added. .
