A new European country moves its train from Russia

Los Baltic countries have taken an essential step towards the Railway independence with the inauguration of First railway transport service between Lithuania and Estoniawhich no longer requires the change of locomotive on the border.

This new service, executed by LTG Cargothe railway operator of merchandise of Lithuania, marks a significant stage in the process of distancing from the Baltic countries of Russiawhile reinforcing your Integration with the rest of Europe.

The train, which connects the Lithuanian city of Kaunas with the Puerto de Muuga, In Estonia, it is composed of 15 wagonsof which 10 are intended for the transport of semi -trailers and 5 to containers. This new route not only optimizes the transport of goods between the two countries, but it is also the first time that a train operated by LTG position meets the European rail standards without the need to share data with the Russian systems.

The general director of LTG position, Egle Shimėthat this service is a clear reflection of the will of the Baltic countries to distance themselves from Russian influence and strengthen their ties with Europe.

Until now, rail services in Baltic countries depended on the Russian GTT systemwhich meant sharing data on load and rolling material with the Kremlin. However, thanks to the implementation of a new platform that records wide track width platform cars in the European Vehicle Registry, this process is obsolete.

The system was placed in the beginning of 2024 and allows the movement of trains without sharing redundant information with Russia. “It is the first time in the history of independent Lithuania that a train circulates through the Baltic countries using the data of the European Vehicle Registry, based on the European certificate of the entities responsible for maintenance, without providing unnecessary data to Russian systems“says Gediminas Seckus, director of relations with the Lithuanian railroads.
