The trade union centrals released on Wednesday (29) a note defending the (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics), IBGE+, and in which they claim that those of the agency, are a manufactured crisis.
The note is signed by Força Sindical, UGT (General Union of Workers), CSB (Central of Brazilian Unions) and CTB (Central of Workers of Brazil).
Earlier, the Ministry of Planning announced ,.
The unions manifest, in the document, support to Pochmann in view of what they evaluate that speculative attacks “fueled by a manufactured crisis that has nothing to do with the credibility and statistical authority of IBGE, national heritage and the Brazilian people.”
The centrals defend the professional trajectory of the president of IBGE and say they vehemently repudiate “attempts to destabilize their management, which have been attacking from the moment of their appointment.”
“We are favorable to dialogue and the construction of solutions involving the servers, the union and the direction of IBGE, including making us available to contribute to mediation,” they say. “However, we will never compact the instrumentalization of the legitimate struggles of workers and servers to promote attacks on one of the main intellectual leaders of our country.”
Unions also say that the Foundation would pave the way for the privatization of IBGE. “If that were the intention, the sectors trying to discredit Marcio Pochmann would certainly not be allied with this narrative,” they say.
“On the contrary, we understand that the current management seeks to strengthen IBGE, creating independent sources of financial support and modernizing its operations, so that the institute remains a national pride and is not dismantled by governments alien to the interests of the Brazilian people.”
Finally, the centrals claim that they are not initiatives like IBGE+ that represent threats to public service. “The real risk is state atrophy, which paves the way for the advancement of neoliberalism and the dismantling of our institutions.”
