Wednesday night’s air collision on the Potomac River is the deadliest air disaster in the United States since November 12, 2001, when an American Airlines flight has fallen into New York, killing all 260 people on board .

Just two months after the September 11 terrorist attack, American Airlines flight 587 fell into Belle Harbor, Queens. Despite the initial concerns, the National Transportation Safety Board found no evidence of sabotage. It was the largest death toll in any plane crash in US history. All 260 people on board died, along with five people on the ground.

Wednesday’s accident resulted in the death of approximately 60 people. In a statement at the White House on Thursday (30), US President Donald Trump confirmed that there are no survivors.

The accident

In a statement, the Aviation Federal Administration (FAA) said the accident happened while the aircraft approached the track. The institution itself suspended flights at Reagan National Airport after the crash of the plane.

The Fire Department and the DC Medical Emergency Service have confirmed that the aircraft has fallen into the river and that fire boats are on site.

The plane was American Airlines flight 5342 and was a PSA Airlines bombardier CRJ700 regional jet. He departed from Wichita, Kansas, on Wednesday.

The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation, along with FAA.
