A former Brazilian military police officer wanted for a murder committed in 2018 in Minas Gerais, Brazil, was arrested in Massachusetts, in the United States. The suspect’s identity was not disclosed by the US police.
The capture took place on December 31, 2024, however, the information was released in January this year. The former police officer entered the United States in New York in March 2024.
Boston’s Immigration and Customs Supervision Director, Patricia H. Hyde, stressed that the department “will not allow Fall River or any other Massachusetts community to become a safe refuge for international fugitives, and we are committed to tracking accused criminals that put our residents at risk. ”
The criminal will remain in the custody of the US government while waiting for the removal process.
According to the Public Prosecution Service of Minas Gerais (MPMG), the crime occurred in 2018 between the municipalities of Piranga and Porto Firme.
According to the investigations, the defendant, who was fired from the Minas Gerais Military Police in 2023, left Brazil by Governador André Franco Montoro International Airport (Guarulhos Airport) in São Paulo. At the time, the former police officer’s arrest decree was sent to Interpol to arrange the red diffusion.
The criminal has not yet arrived in Brazil. According to MPMG, he will be subjected to a new jury as soon as he returns to the country.
The operation was attended by the Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (Gaeco), the Piranga Prosecutor’s Office, the Federal Police and the US authorities.
