Gun possession licenses fall 30% in 2024, informs PF

PF granted 1,727 weapon sizes last year, against 2,469 in 2023; new weapons registration retreated 11.6%

The Federal Police (PF) registered a 30% drop in firearm authorizations for personal use in 2024. The data, presented on 29.jan.2025, show that the number of size granted went from 2,469 in 2023 to 1,727 last year.

The registration of new weapons also decreased 11.6%from 28,402 to 25,097. Seizures of ammunition grew by 9%, totaling 220,082 units. The number of weapons seized retreated 40.8%from 4,713 to 2,741.

In combating organized crime, the PF caused a loss of 5.6 billion reais to criminal organizations by 2024, an increase of 70% over the previous year. Drug seizures grew: marijuana (15%), cocaine (2.8%) and ecstasy (20.7%).

PF efficiency indicators showed improvement by 2024. The corporation recorded a 9% increase in the number of inquiries established, 14% in the indicted people and 4% in the arrests in the act. The average duration of investigations fell from 621 to 461 days, a 26%reduction.
