Meta agreed that it would pay US President Donald Trump $ 25 million for the settlement of the lawsuit it had filed against it after the attack of his supporters on chapters of 6 January 2021 suspended his social networks.
The information was the first to bring the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal, referring to its resources. Subsequently, it was also confirmed by a spokesman for Andy Stone, quoted by NBC News.
Stone approached the conditions of out -of -court settlement of the dispute. Meta, according to him, will pay a total of $ 25 million, of which 22 million will go to the fund for the future Trump’s presidential library, while the rest will be intended for court costs and other applicants in this case. At the same time, according to the spokesman, the settlement of the dispute does not require Meta to grant a mistake.
The White House has not yet commented on the report.
Companies terminate disputes
Meta is already the second large corporation that agreed to pay for the out -of -court settlement of Trump’s lawsuit, since he won the presidential election in November. The first was the American TV station ABC News, which announced in December that it would pay $ 15 million for the end of the dispute in which Trump claimed that he was defiled by its moderator George Stephanopoulos.
Until recently, Trump has been a long -time critic of Meta, which he blamed for being interested in him. Facebook, after the attacks of his supporters on chapters of 6 January 2021, blocked an account, which, however, renewed at the beginning of 2023.
Meta Zuckerberg, however, has been trying to thank Trump from his re -election and alleviate the disputes with him. Meta even donated a million dollars to Trump’s inauguration and accompanying events on January 20, and Zuckerberg personally participated in the inauguration, as well as other technology giants.
In November, Zuckerberg visited Trump at his headquarters Mar-A-Lago, Florida. At the beginning of January, Meta announced that it ends with the fact that it ends verifying the facts by an independent third party and leaves it to the users, like the social network of X Elon Musko, the Trump’s nearby ally, is currently doing this.
