Mariana Mortágua, spokesman for the Left Block

The PGR confirms that it has opened an inquiry into the two cases of alleged ghost contracts, in which the block is suspected of giving term to two employees to do not have to compensate them for the dismissal.

According to the prosecution, the Public Ministry opened an inquiry to investigate the case of workers who had been mothers recently and were faced from the Left Block.

The information was confirmed by the Attorney General’s Office, and two suspicions of ghost contractswhich may incur the crimes of document forgery and social security fraud.

“It is confirmed the establishment of an inquiry, which runs in the Diap de Lisbon,” replied PGR.

The case was initially reported by Saturday magazine, which reported the existence of Five cases of workers which would have been dismissed from the block shortly after giving birth and when they were still breastfeeding.

In two of these cases, the employees allegedly faced “were in the paintings and that, to circumvent the law, the party gave them term contracts without functionsso that the “salary” would serve compensation, “said Saturday.

“It was an agreement and the party bought the silence of the workers So that the situation would not be known, ”said a source from the magazine.

The employees have never rendered service to justify these term contracts and were fired at the end, and the paid compensation was based on the value of the last contract, and not on the rules of compensation that apply to already effective workers in the staff.

In response to Saturday’s news, the Left Block denied three of the reported situations and even advanced with a complaint to the communication regulatory entity. “Of the five references published, two are relating to discharges that the block did not make (the European Parliament ended these bonds automatically at the end of the MEP mandates in 2024) and a third is the case of an advisor who continues to work in the parliamentary group ”, He says.

However, the party led by Mariana Mortágua recognized “errors” in the two situations of the term contracts. “In a painful process like the one we live in in 2022, to terms that end professional bonds with half of the people we employed, not everything was free from failure and the block recognizes it. We make mistakes That we regret and that we would have avoided today, ”reads the missive sent to the party’s adherents by the BE leader.
