Opposition politicians to the President (PT) mocked the BC (Central Bank) after the (monetary policy committee) unanimously increased Selic by 1 pp (percentage point).
The basic interest rate went from 12.25% to 13.25% per year. The decision was supported by the petista, who at the meeting. Now, of the 9 seats that make up the collegiate, only 2 were appointed by (PL), its predecessor.
Lula and the government criticized the former Central Bank president several times in 2023 and 2024. Campos Neto was nominated by Bolsonaro, Lula’s political opponent. The economist left office in December and said all monetary policy decisions.

The petista said Gabriel Galipolo, current president of the Central Bank and appointed by Lula, had “Few alternatives”because the increase in the basic interest rate had been “Determined since December by the previous board of the BC”.
Selic is the basic interest rate of the Brazilian economy. Directly influences the rates charged for loans, financing and investments. In the financial market, impacts the income of investments.
