More than 20 years after being officially closed and after six years of intense work, he was reopened on Monday (20) to the public the complex that includes the Pedra Lisa Trail, which connects the village from Paranapiacaba to Santos. The route, which is inside the Serra do Mar State Park, is administered by the Forest Foundation and the recovery work was borne by the IPT (Institute for Technological Research).
The trail, which had been closed after some fatal accidents, gained a number of benefits such as steps, handrails, containment structures to avoid landslides and signaling the way to help the trails in their journeys. According to Mariana Carneseca, IPT researcher who followed the process, “the demand for trail recovery comes from 2009, but until we got resources and drawing the project took a few years, so we started work in 2018”.
The difficulties in revitalizing the area were not few. “The area was very difficult to reach, very inclined and slippery, and we worked with heavy materials, which needed to be loaded in hand, because there are no machines or vehicles there,” says Mariana. “We often need to wait for a breach between rain and fog, and wait for the floor to dry so we can enter the structures,” he adds.
Mariana points out that the trail is not within the granted area, which is the Caminhos do Mar Park. The access is made exclusively by the Natural Park Municipal Nascentes de Paranapiacaba, and goes to Vila Quilombo, already in Santos. Visitation can only be done with the accompaniment of a guide accredited by the Santo André City Hall or the Forest Foundation on days and times previously scheduled by Itutingapiloes.ingressosparquespaulista.com.br, from Tuesday to Sunday, from 8:30 am to 4 pm, and Only 100 visitors are authorized per day.
The revitalization of the Lisa Stone Trail, which Mariana points out to be before the Lorena Calçada itself, which is on the Paths of the Sea and was built in the late 18th century, required investments of about $ 1.9 million and its recovery had to be paralyzed several times when traces of archaeological interest were found. “Only after archaeological investigation, with more than ten archaeologists working with us, could we decide what it is like revitalizing,” she explains.
“We put it as if they were stilts on stilts so that people pass on watercourses without impact on local rivers, fish and fauna, we put railways and decks to make the crossing more comfortable, and we look for everything Less impact on the environment and the greatest safety for all, “she says.
It is worth remembering that, in fact, the smooth stone is the icing on the cake and is considered of high difficulty, but there are two other trails that have been recovered in the area, the hidden waterfall (average difficulty) and that of the low difficulty. The three routes add up to a total of 6 kilometers linear-a distance that may seem simple, but that in the moist and slippery Mata do Serra do Mar and the foot paving of the paths demands more care than the same distance , say, strolling the streets of Sao Paulo (as bumpy as they are).
Asked about the possible opening of the trail that leads to funicular, whose access is prohibited by severe risk of accidents, but is invaded by onlookers who often saw statistics on the rescue of the firefighters, Mariana said that this is a trail complex that has stayed for a second moment. “It is another escarpment, another valley, across Paranapiacaba, and the Santo André City Hall is also interested in investing in its recovery thinking about safety,” he said.
