With the remote work to gain more and more relevance, many cities around the world seek to attract and welcome digital nomads. Albufeira has been standing out in this area and is located in the top 20 of digital cities in 2025, according to a ranking released on January 8 by Flatio, a lease platform directed to digital node. The selection of cities had criteria such as cost of living, speed of the internet and quality of life.
The Flatio study highlights Albufeira as a more affordable destination compared to Lisbon and Porto, estimating that monthly expenses for a person, including income, range from 900 € and 1,400 €, depending on lifestyle and type of accommodation. The city’s historic center is named ideal for those who want to be close to restaurants, shops, coworking spaces and leisure zones.
The high -speed internet, the landscapes with sea view and the vast supply of activities for the community are also referenced. In addition, the quality of life, driven by the Mediterranean climate, the high number of hours of sun and the relaxing atmosphere, makes the city even more attractive. Among the positive points, the study also marks the natural beauty and the possibility of performing outdoor activities, such as hiking, surfing and boat tours.
In the top 20 of the 2025 digital cities, Albufeira joins Lisbon, which leads the ranking, and Porto, occupying the 7th position. The list also includes Warsaw (Poland), Prague (Chéquia), Zagreb (Croatia), Budapest (Hungary), Berlin (Germany), Vienna (Austria), Barcelona (Spain), Brno (Chéquia), Madeira (Portugal), Malaga (Spain), London (United Kingdom), Split (Croatia), Madrid (Spain), Paris (France), Bangkok (Thailand), Sofia (Bulgaria) and Valencia (Spain).
The president of, José Carlos Rolo, considers that “this distinction reinforces the status of Albufeira as a” nomad friendly “city.”
For the mayor, this recognition contributes “to the reduction of seasonality and an asset to show that Albufeira is not just the destination of sunshine and sea: it has an interior with stunning landscapes, millenary traditions and ideal conditions to welcome digital nomads.”
Since February 2023, when the “Albufeira Digital Nomads” project was created, more than 2,500 visitors passed through the Blue Room, a coworking space located at the Inatel Hotel.
The Blue Room aims to create a dynamic and inspiring environment for digital nomads and remote professionals, fostering the sharing of knowledge, collaboration and mutual support. The space is open to all remote workers, including places, from Monday to Friday, between 9:00 and 20:00.
In October last year, Albufeira received two major events in the area of Innovation and Digital Nomadism: the 2nd edition of the Nomad World Fest and the 3rd edition of the Algarve Tech Hub Summit. Both events attracted hundreds of participants at national and international level, reinforcing the position of the Algarve as a technological and preferred destination for digital nomads.
