Illegal immigrants who have committed theft, theft, aggression, serious bodily injuries or homicide can be expelled immediately

United States President Donald Trump (Republican) sanctioned on Wednesday (29.Jan.2025) Laken Riley, which facilitates the arrest and deportation of illegal immigrants accused of serious crimes. The legislation allows the (internal security department) to hold immigrants without the need for formal judgment.

The legislation also expands the list of crimes that require the immediate deportation of illegal immigrants. Now people in this situation who have committed infractions such as theft, stores, aggression, serious bodily injuries and homicide, can be removed from the country without being convicted. “It is a historical law that we are doing today. Will save numerous innocent American lives ”Trump said in the White House.

The decree also allows US states to process the federal government in cases such as:

  • Release of immigrants in custody;
  • Failures on inspection of people requesting admission to the US, including asylum interviews;
  • Failure to comply with requirements on suspension of visas;
  • Violations of limitations on parole for immigrants;
  • no detention of immigrants with deportation order.

This measure makes room for the regional and decentralized administrations themselves to monitor the action of DHS or future governments not aligned with the current immigration policy.

Who was Laken Riley

The name of the law is a tribute to Laken Riley, 22, a nursing student at Augusta University, Georgia. The young woman was attacked and murdered by Jose Antonio Ibarra, a 26 -year -old Venezuelan who entered the US illegally. The detail is that the immigrant already had a criminal history for theft to a store, but had never been arrested.

The murder of Riley, which took place in February 2024, led to debates among critics of immigration policies from Joe Biden’s (Democrat) government, as Ibarra entered the US temporarily.

The US Congress the law last week, just that Trump sanctioned it. Despite criticism from some deputies of the Democratic Party, the law has gone through a large majority for the legislature.

Congressmen contrary to the decree argue that illegal immigrant groups can be arrested only for witnessing a crime, as the police would have to deport and stop those involved without an investigation or conviction.
