In the zoo in Bratislava, the female Giraffe Rothschild, Salome, who was born in the zoo in December 2011, died last week. One of the breeders found her in the morning in a stable without signs of life. It died as a result of sudden death syndrome, the animal showed no signs of any problems. TASR informed Alexandra Ritter from the zoo.

“We waited for the rest of the herd to deal with the situation. Other individuals, even zebras, a dead female for a few days, were looking for it to be part of the herd. But otherwise they can handle this situation peacefully, “said zoologist Robert Kondrk. At the same time, the other days have watched whether there would be no signs of health problems with other giraffes, which was not confirmed. However, animals continue to monitor.

The Bratislava Zoo is the only zoo in Slovakia where visitors can observe giraffes. Their breeding began in 1984, the second giraffes of mesh, which gradually replaced the Giraffe Rothschild. The herd consists of two individuals, female Layla and her descendant, male Jamila. The Zoo plans to continue in the breeding, preparing the project of a new breeding facility.
