Speaking to GloboEsporte (GE), Will Santana described the experience as scary and revealed that when the Portuguese authorities decided to close the port, it was already in water. “It was one of the scariest experiences of my life. The Herminia storm has hit Europe with very strong winds, bringing gigantic and frightening ripples. It was really extreme. The sea authorities closed the port of shelter, but when the warning was issued, we were already in the sea, ready to surf. We only knew of the interdiction when we returned to Earth. Perhaps this has never happened before, ”he said.
In recent days, the storm has punished southern Europe with winds that reach 180 km/h, turning Nazareth into a true battlefield for giant wave surfers. Despite the danger, Will Santana continues to challenge the colossal waves caused by the phenomenon and shared the thrill of surfing in such extreme conditions.
“It was a huge adrenaline discharge. I was very afraid due to the size of the sea and the strength of the storm, but Eric Ribiere, a very experienced pilot, managed to calm me down, conveying safety and desire to surf the biggest wave of my life. And it happened! It was an amazing feeling. I had never surfed in such extreme conditions and did not know if I could control the board with such speed, but everything went well and was very happy, ”said the surfer.
