UEFA held this Friday (01/31) the draw of Champions League playoffs. The teams that went from phase will go to the round of 16 of the tournament.
The main duel will be Manchester City and Real Madrid. Those who qualify in the duel will face Atletico de Madrid or Leverkusen in the round of 16.
Other favorites that will compete in the previous phase will be PSG, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Milan.

What are the clashes of Champions League playoffs?
The duels will be round trip. The clashes will not have a goal advantage away from home, as are the other phases of the Champions League.
If there is equality in both clashes, there will be extension and penalties to decide who will qualify. The teams that ended in front of the table – PSG, Atalanta, Real Madrid, PSV, Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Milan – make the second match at home.

When will the Champions League playoffs be?
The playoffs will take place in February. The first -time duels will be played on February 11 and 12, while the return will be on the 18th and 19th of the same month.

How is Champions League’s new format?
BEFORE
- 32 teams divided into eight groups, from group A to group H;
- Group Draw: A key head left the pot 1 and faced a pot 2 team, another from pot 3 and another from the pot 4;
- Round trip games, totaling six games for each team in the group stage.
- Criteria of the pots: UEFA National and Coefficient Titles
- Liga Europa: teams that ended in third place were “downgraded” to the other continental tournament
NOW
- 36 clubs at a big running points, but not everyone will face each other;
- In the draw, the 36 clubs were divided into four pots with 9 teams each; each team would face two teams of each pot, that is, eight matches (half at home, half away);
- Criteria: 1. Pots were divided according to UEFA ranking; 2. Teams from the same country could not face each other. Respecting these criteria, each time a team was drawn, a computer automatically defined the clashes.
- Liga Europa: No team eliminated from Champions League will play the other tournament.
