The former financial director of Itaú Unibanco (), Alexsandro Broedel, once again said that the bank’s accusations against him are unfounded, and that he will seek justice. This Thursday, 30, Itaú filed a liability action against Broedel and the accounting teacher Eliseu Martins asking for reimbursement for alleged conflict of interest and improper appropriation of resources.
“It is a deep strangeness that Itaú lift the suspicion about alleged inappropriate conduct only after Broedel has presented the resignation to its positions in the bank to take a global position in one of its main competitors,” said Broedel, through a note sent by his advisory .
Itaú states that Broedel received about 40% of the amounts related to consulting services that Martins provided to the bank. The two would be partners in a consulting firm, and Broedel was responsible for approving Banco’s payments to Martins, configuring conflict of interest. The executive would not have informed the conglomerate about society.
The executive did not respond to other information included in the action by the bank’s lawyers.
“Alexsandro Broedel has always led himself ethically and transparently in all activities over his 12 years in the bank – something never contested by Itaú, which has a rigorous and comprehensive control and compliance structure, proper to a financial group with its size and importance in the Brazilian economy. ”
Broedel left Itaú in the middle of last year to take a position in the Santander group in Spain.
