Former Presidents of IPO and Algarve Hospital will have spent 100,000 euros on trips and drivers for doctors

Former Presidents of the IPO of Porto and Algarve Hospital will be tried for bleaching, economic participation in business and document forgery. They will have injured hospitals in almost 100,000 euros through an illegal scheme that took doctors from Porto to the Algarve, with plane trips and paid driver.

Former presidents of the IPO of Porto and Algarve Hospital will be tried on suspicion of having injured hospitals in almost 100 thousand euros.According to the prosecution, the money was used to move doctors from Porto to the Algarve, ensuring them salaries and costs higher than those permitted by law.

Former leaders are accused of bleaching crimes, economic participation in business and document falsification. According to the Public Prosecution Service, doctors received not only the payment of overtime, but also trips by plane, transport paid to the kilometer, private driver in the Algarve and still accommodation.

The alleged irregularity emerged as an attempt to supply the lack of oncologists at the Algarve Hospital Center. Instead of resorting to public hiring, Orange Pontes, then president of the IPO of Porto, and Pedro Nunes, at the date of the Algarve Hospital, will have established a direct agreement for the assignment of doctors.

The facts date back to 2015, but the accusation was only made public last year.

The process involves three defendants: the two former hospital presidents and former Human Resources director at the Algarve Hospital. The trial will start within two weeks at the São João Novo Court, in Porto.
