German Chancellor Olaf Scholz indicated on Friday that the far -right alternative for Germany (AfD) could reach the government after the February parliamentary elections. He said after a proposal for opposition Christian Democrats (CDU) to limit migration thanks to support this party. TASR reports according to AFP.

The chairman of the CDU and the possible future office of Friedrich Merz earned a significant criticism for such a procedure, among others his predecessor as a former German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Scholz said in Friday’s interview for Zeit Online that Merz had made charges of untrustworthiness.

The German Federal Assembly on Wednesday called on the government to limit immigration and refuse to enter the country at the border of a larger number of asylum seekers. The proposal of the opposition coalition CDU/CSU has passed in parliament with the support of the AfD, although it is not binding and the government does not have to act. However, the voting in parliament has broken a long -term taboo, as cooperation with anti -immigration AfD had been rejected by all parliamentary parties.

Scholz, who has criticized Merza during a stormy parliamentary debate of the previous vote, has now pointed out his previous declared commitments to avoid the extreme right. According to the office, Merz’s promise also challenges such action that he would never create a government coalition with AfD.

At the same time, Scholz pointed out the case of Austria, where the extreme right -wing free party of Austria (FPÖ) won the election, which is currently close to the creation of a coalition with a conservative Austrian People’s Party (ÖVP). “ÖVP even said: No government led by FPÖ, no coalition with them,” Scholz said.

Favorite surveys

In February early elections, pre -election surveys attribute CDU victory and it is believed that Merz could become a new office. Scholz has now pursued the possibility that the CDU will lead “Proforma” talks with other political parties after the elections, but eventually turned to AfD. The elections are followed by relatively lengthy coalition negotiations.

In pre -election surveys, CDU/CSU leads with a support of about 30 percent of votes, followed by an AfD with approximately 21 percent, while Scholz’s Social Democrats gain around 16 percent.
