Federal prosecutors are investigating whether NBA veteran, Terry Rozier, changed their performance in a game as part of an illegal sports betting operation, said the Wall Street Journal This Thursday (30).
Currently Miami Heat point guard, Rozier was playing for Charlotte Hornets when the game under investigation took place on March 23, 2023.
Rozier’s bets for this match, a defeat by 115-96 for the New Orleans Pelicans, were “strange enough” to draw US Integrity, a company that specializes in monitoring bets for suspicious activities.
US Integrity has notified the NBA and betting houses on unusual bets made in Rozier’s projected statistics for the game. The player started the match, but played only 9 minutes and 34 seconds due to a foot injury, ending with five points (he had an average of 21.1 points and 35.3 minutes per game that season).
At 30, Rozier was not accused of any crime or even misconduct.
Rozier’s representative refused to comment on Wall Street Journaland Miami Heat forwarded the commentary requests to the NBA.
NBA spokesman Mike Bass issued a note stating that the league investigation found no violation of its rules.
“In March 2023, the NBA was warned of unusual betting activities related to Terry Rozier’s performance in a game between Charlotte and New Orleans,” Bass said. “The League conducted an investigation and found no violation of the NBA rules. We now know of an investigation from the US Attorney’s office for the East District of New York related to this subject and we are cooperating with this investigation. ”
Now in his 10th NBA, Rozier has an average of 11.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 41 games (21 as a starter) by Miami Heat.
