Petistas from Sao Paulo try to convince the former minister, now dedicated to law, to return to the political arena and dispute the Senate by in 2026.
Although away from party life, former federal deputy, he would still have electoral appeal and entry to sectors of the middle class, believe allies.
The candidacy would be an alternative in a scenario where the PT has no obvious names for the government of São Paulo, nor for both vacancies to the Senate.
The scenario is considered quite unfavorable to the left in the state, with wide mastery of allies of the former president (PL) and the governor (Republicans).
Sought by the panel, Cardozo says he has been sought by friends with the suggestion to dispute the election, but has no plans to return to politics at the moment.
“I’m fine in law. But the election is still far away, God will say what will happen,” he says.
