The TJ-SP (São Paulo Court of Justice) accepted a complaint from MP-SP (São Paulo Public Prosecutor) against the four River Plate football players who were detained late last year, after confusion in a match against Grêmio .
Juana Cangaro, Camila Ayelen Duarte, Candela Agustina Diaz, and Miracles Naiquen Diaz were denounced on charges of racism against Gandula Kayque Rodrigues and opponent Stephanie de Brito Cerqueira.
The prosecution’s complaint was received by Judge Manoela Assef da Silva, from the 15th Criminal Court of the Court, on Monday (27). The defense had requested permission for the players to return to Argentina, but the request was denied on Tuesday (28).
The episode took place on December 20, in a game valid for Ladies Cup, at Canindé Stadium, in São Paulo. These athletes were arrested in the act, and the next day the arrest was converted into preventive. On the 27th, they gained provisional freedom, with the obligation to remain in Brazil.
Juana, Camila, Candela and Milagros should therefore be in the country. The instructional hearing will be virtual and is scheduled for July 7 at 1:30 pm. The defense of the players was sought by calls and messages on Thursday afternoon (30), but there was no response until the publication from text.
According to the Public Prosecution Service, the possibility of agreement of criminal non -prosecution was denied due to the severity of the facts. The prosecution has asked each of the athletes to be ordered to pay 30 minimum wages for the Gandula and the Guild player for moral damages, as well as 50 minimum wages each for collective moral damages.
The confusion that caused the arrest was at the moment of Maria, from Grêmio, tied the game with River, in the 38 -minute mark of the first half. According to the complaint, Candela made gestures with her arms imitating a monkey for Kayque, and called him a monkey and hard hair.
Also according to the prosecution, Miracles spat on the Brazilian’s face, and Camila said he was a gandula and would not pass it, because he is black. The complaint, finally, maintains that Juana called the Brazilian Gorilla and that the gremista Stephanie, when he intervened in favor of the compatriot, heard Racist insults of Camila.
The match was closed prematurely, with multiple expulsions and elimination of the River, then suspended from the competition for two years. Grêmio and the Argentine team itself published notes repudiating the discriminatory gestures.
