The companies faced a historical primary of R $ 8.07 billion in 2024, according to information released by the Central Bank. This result marks the worst performance since the beginning of the institution’s historical series, which began in December 2001. The deficit of federal state -owned companies was $ 6.7 billion, while state and municipal companies had deficits of $ 1.3 billion and R $ 39 million, respectively.

Compared to 2023, when the total state deficit was R $ 2.3 billion, the situation worsened considerably. That year, state state -owned companies contributed R $ 1.3 billion to the negative result, followed by the federals with R $ 656 million and the municipalities with R $ 313 million.

Minister Esther Dweck commented that a budget debt does not necessarily indicate problems in the financial health of state -owned companies. She explained that part of this deficit is the result of investments made over 2024. Dweck also mentioned that state -owned companies such as Serpro and Dataprev, which had net profits of $ 426 million and $ 385 million, respectively, also faced budget deficits.

Survey of SEST (Secretariat of Coordination and Governance of State Companies) shows that among the 11 companies that registered primary deficit, 9 were accumulating profits until the third quarter of 2024. Of the 20 state -owned companies, 16 should end the year 2024 with positive results , which suggests that despite deficits, many of them maintain a profitability trajectory.
