The governor of São Paulo, Tarcisio de Freitas (Republicans), received the Equity Follow-On of the Year award for the privatization of the São Paulo State Basic Sanitation Company (Sabesp-) on Thursday, 30, in Nova York, USA.
The honor was granted by the international magazine Latin Finance, specializing in financial market in Latin America and the Caribbean, during his annual dinner of capital markets.

The Bill (Law No. 17,853/2023) for the privatization of Sabesp was approved by the São Paulo State Legislative Assembly (Alesp) on December 6, 2023. With privatization, the State remained 18% of the shares. Already 17% were acquired by investors in the financial market and 15% by the equatorial participations and investments, which acts as an energy concessionaire in seven Brazilian states and, since December 2021, in the sanitation sector. With the sale of 32% of the company, São Paulo received R $ 14.8 billion.
