Alcolumbre was elected with the support of 9 of the 12 parties with Senate representation: PSD, PL, MDB, PT, União Brasil, PP, PSB, Republicans and PDT.
The support of the PL was, in exchange for the 1st Vice Presidency of the Senate, of heavy committees, and the guarantee that the debate on amnesty to the scammers of January 8 will not be banned.
Alcolumbre also asked President Lula’s blessing, with the promise of not disturbing the federal government’s agenda.
