Danger: illegal interventions on the power grid grow more than 20% in Acre and threaten lives

Acre has recorded a significant increase in the number of irregular interventions in the power grid in 2024. Data from Energisa, the concessionaire responsible for the state’s energy supply, point out a 22% growth in such occurrences compared to the previous year. The practice, besides being illegal, poses a serious risk to population safety and may result in fatal accidents.

Only in 2023, more than 20,780 consumers were impacted by interruptions in power supply due to unauthorized interventions. These actions compromise the stability of the electrical system and can lead to serious consequences such as short circuit and lethal electrical discharges.

Energisa stresses that only trained professionals are allowed to operate on the power grid. “The activities involving electricity should be performed safely and responsible, by qualified and authorized professionals. Climbing posts, changing transformers, installing meters, intervening in disconnect keys, better known as ‘Canelas’, must be performed exclusively by Energisa teams. Any irregular intervention puts lives at risk and can cause disconnections, serious and even fatal accidents, ”warns André Amarante, the concessionaire’s operations manager.

In addition to the imminent danger, unauthorized interventions also constitute a crime. Article 265 of the Brazilian Penal Code provides for imprisonment of one to five years, in addition to a fine, for those who pay against the safety or operation of essential services such as electricity and water supply. The penalty may be increased by half if there is a subtraction of materials essential to the operation of the service.

To avoid risks and ensure continuity of energy supply in the state, Energisa advises that any problem in the power grid is communicated to the concessionaire, which has specialized teams to deal with maintenance and repairs. The commitment to safety and compliance with electrical standards is fundamental to preserving lives and ensuring a stable energy supply for all acreans.
