We cut the vine when it is at rest. Therefore, we must carry out this procedure from November to the beginning of March. If we do it too early, the plant will be cold to cold. In turn, too late cutting results in the flow of juices from the wounds.

Gardeners usually cut the plant at the turn of January and February. However, it should be remembered that this should not be done during severe frosts. The temperature should be above -5 degrees Celsius.

We carry out this treatment during dry and sunny days. Moisture can promote the development of fungal diseases. That is why it is best to grab the tools now and cut the plants while the weather is conducive to it.

Before we start cutting, you must first prepare the tools. They must be sharp, but also disinfected. The dirty ones can transfer fungi or bacteria to fresh plant wounds. So how do you clean a pruning shears or saw?

The fastest and at the same time the simplest method to clean these tools is Wacker wet in isopropyl alcohol (70%). We can also immerse the pruning shears or saw in it and then leave them to dry.

Some gardeners wash the cutting tools in a chlorine and water solution mixed in a 1: 9 ratio. In such a mixture they immerse the pruning shears or saw for 5 minutes, then rinse them with water and dry them.

We can also use special gardening preparations – antifungal agents. Remember to follow the manufacturer’s recommendation.

At the beginning We remove all dry parts, e.g. leaves from the vine. In this way, we minimize the risk of developing fungal diseases.

Then we remove dry, broken and sick shoots. Remember to keep the main structure of the plant.

We leave shoots 8-12 mm thick. However, we cut the resulting ones, keeping 8 to 12 pointspaying attention to both the variety and vine strength.
