The US president did not give details about which countries will be affected by the measure
United States President Donald Trump (Republican) told reporters on Friday (31.jan.2025) that he plans to apply tariffs on the purchase of oil and gas until February 18. It gave no details about which countries will be affected by the measure.
Trump also said he can reduce taxes on part of crude oil from Canada. The Republican made the statement after being asked if they would include the appeal.
“I will probably reduce the rate a little about it. We think we will reduce to 10% in oil ”he said.
Over imports of Canada and Mexico and a 10% rate on products from China from Saturday (1st.FEV).
During the campaign, Trump promised to impose additional rates on neighboring countries to combat what he called an invasion of “Drugs” e “Illegal immigrants”.
The action against Mexico and Canada is seen as an effort to promote the policy of the Republican “America First”, benefiting US workers and companies.
Tariffs, however, may increase costs for US consumers, already impacted by years of high inflation. In addition, it can violate the USMCA, a free trade agreement between US, Canada and Mexico.
