Two solutions for Gaza – 01/31/2025 – Demétrio Magnoli

In the city of Gaza, a carefully choreographed ruined landscape, Hamas armed combatants transferred Israeli hostages to the Red Cross. In Salah al Deen, the road that cuts the Gaza range from Khan Younis to Jabalia Campo, a crowd returned north – the foot, in wagons or cars – to their homes that no longer exist. The images of the interregnum provided by the ceasefire are in a historical crossroads that will define the destinies of Israel and Palestine.

There are two solutions to Gaza. The first, which should be described as a peace solution, is the complete withdrawal of Israel’s troops and the replacement of the Hamas government with an administration of the Palestinian authority supported by Arab and international forces.

At the end of the line, under the cloak of a regional security agreement between Israel and the Arab countries, the Gaza Strip and the West Bank would be gathered in an independent Palestinian state. Biden and Blink outlined such a plan, which has the support of Saudis, Egyptians and Jordanians, but never used US power to impose it to the Netanyahu extremist government.

“Joe Genocida” – the infamous accusation resonated in the demonstrations of young college students in the US, along with the flags and slogans of a left who, under the effects of historical amnesia, calls for the destruction of the Jewish state. In place of Joe, there is now Donald, an extremist leader capable of associating the notion of peace with the ethnic cleaning.

Gaza’s second solution is that of Trump, expressed in the verb “empty” and the “place of demolition” object. The US President addressed Egypt and Jordan the proposal to transfer the 2.1 million Gaza Palestinians to “temporary” or “long term” fields in the two neighbors of Israel. For the first time, an American government aligns with Israeli supremacist currents who hypocritically preach the “voluntary migration” of the population of the Enclave, on the route of the annexation of the Holy Land.

They are more than words. Given the predictable rejection, Trump doubled the bet: “I hope that [o presidente egípcio] Sissi absorbs some. We helped them a lot and I’m sure they would help us. He is my friend – I think the king of Jordan would do this too. “The pretext for the resumption of war is there in the ruined center of the city of Gaza, in the form of Hamas combatants, who see the ordinary Palestinians as” martyrs of the cause “.

Trump’s “final solution” would put the final shovel of lime in the sight of the sharing of the Holy Land in two states consecrated in the famous UN resolution of 1947. Palestinians would be confined to fragmentary refugee and converted fields, forever, in a people without state expression. At the same time, a great Israel would emerge ruled by nationalists and fanatical religious engaged in the military-police repression of deprived Arabs. The destruction of Palestine would inevitably lead to the implosion of Israeli democracy.

The Iranian “axis of resistance”, an anti -Semitic militia coalition, is dead. The constellation of Arab authoritarian governments of the Middle East does not have the strength or conviction to block Trump’s solution. It remains to be seen whether Israeli society will be able to interrupt the march towards the catastrophe.
