“On the issue of joining the EU, this will not happen,” he said to arrive at the informal meeting of 27 leaders in Brussels dedicated to the defense
British Prime Minister Keir Strmer said today that the return of his country to the European Union (EU) “will not happen”, because this issue was decided in the 2016 referendum on integration into the community bloc.
“On the issue of joining the EU again, this will not happen. This question was answered when we made a referendum in the United Kingdom a few years ago, so it is resolved,” he told the informal meeting of 27 leaders in Brussels dedicated to the defense.
The British leader participates in a dinner during the meeting.
Despite rejecting the UK’s return to the EU, Strmer said he believed that London may have “a better and closest relationship with Brussels regarding trade and security.”
“I will be discussing energy, commerce and economy tonight. I think this is in the interest of the United Kingdom and I think this is in the interest of the European Union,” he said.
