Israeli justice orders to stop a thousand ultra -orthodox Jews for refusing recruitment

The Justice of Israel has ordered Monday to detain more than a thousand orthodox Jews who have refused to be recruited within the framework of the offensive against the Gaza Strip, a measure that has raised numerous protests among members of the Haredí community, that insist on being outside the mandatory military service.

The head of the Planning and Personnel Department of the Israeli Army, Shay Tayeb, has indicated during an appearance before the Parliament that only 461 of the 3,000 ultra -orthodox Jews of ages between the 18 and 26 years who received orders to join the ranks of The armed forces have presented themselves in the centers arranged for recruitment.

Thus, a total of 1,212 members of said community could now be arrested for having ignored the army orders issued during the past summer. In this regard, he has assured before the Foreign Affairs and Defense Commission of the Knesset that are also more than a thousand who will not be able to leave the country, according to information collected by the newspaper The Times of Israel.

They claim to regulate exemptions

For their part, Haredis religious and political leaders resist any attempt to recruit young people due to their status as students from Talmudic schools.

The ultra -orthodox coalition partners of the Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, have exerted pressure on the government to approve a law that regulates military exemptions for the students of the Yeshiva and other members of the Haredí community after the Superior Court dictated in June that these exemptions, in force for decades, were illegal.

The united Judaism parties of the Torah and Shas have accused both the government and the country’s attorney general, Gali Baharav Miara, to hinder a bill that consecrates the exemption of military service for the Haredis.
