What if you choose a slightly more oriental treat for your favorite coffee or tea? Our proposal is simple – Baklava will work great. Not everyone knows that such a dessert, associated primarily with Turkish cuisine, can be easily prepared at home. You can find the main ingredient in Biedronka or Lidl.

Baklava This is a dish with a rich history – it already has its roots in ancient Mesopotamia. For hundreds of years it was very popular primarily among Arabs and Greeks, but also other Middle East nations. At the beginning it was prepared using simple ingredients – thin layers of cake, nuts and honey. Over time, however, this oriental dessert has evolved due to various add -ons,

Each region has its own version of Baklava – for example, in Greece it is poured with honey syrup, while representatives of Arab countries as its main ingredient use almonds, pistachios or peanuts.

What connects virtually all types of baklava is delicious very thin filo cakereminiscent of leaves. It resembles puff pastry, but only in appearance. For the first one is used butter, while for the second – primarily flour, water and a little oil.

You can make them yourself, but it is a bit time consuming. Fortunately, the filo cake is available in large -scale stores. You can easily find them in most Biedronka or Lidl stores.

You can easily prepare this oriental dessert at home – Recipe for homemade baklava It is not difficult and the effect will certainly delight you.

At the beginning, prepare the following ingredients:

  • 450 g of filo petals,
  • 270 g of butter, molten,
  • 220 g of almond flakes,
  • 220 g of walnuts, chopped,
  • 170 g cukru,
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon,
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice,
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla,
  • 250 ml of water,
  • 250 ml of honey.

Start by warming up the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Spread the filo cakes on the board/countertop and cut them into pieces (dimension 23x33cm).

In a small pot, heat a tablespoon of butter, when it dissolves, add almonds and walnuts. Fry for a few minutes until they browned gently. Now it is the time to add: sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice and a bit of vanilla extract.

Then put one layer of filo cake petals to the 23x33cm mold, grease it with butter. Repeat this process four times – with subsequent layers.

Put half of the filling prepared in a pot on the filo petals. Place another four layers of filo on this and smear with soft butter. Put the rest of the filling on this and spread evenly.

Baklava put in a preheated gingerbread and bake for 45 minutes, until browning.

It’s time to prepare the syrup – heat the water with honey in a saucepan and cook for a few minutes until the mixture thickens. Set aside from the heat to cool. After removing Baklava from the oven, pour it with syrup. Serve after cooling.
