The airline stated that no one was injured
More than one hundred passengers were removed from a United Airlines flight from Houston, Texas to New York, after an engine problem was detected shortly before takeoff, when a smoke started to be visible on the wing of the aircraft, according to authorities and the airline.
According to CNN, the incident occurred on Sunday (2) around 8:35 am (11:35 am in Brasilia) at the Intercontinental George Bush airport in Houston.
The Texan City Fire Department said it sent its teams to the scene to help land passengers from the aircraft that had been trying to take off to LAGUARDIA Airport in New York.
The airline stated that no one was injured after the crew of flight 1,382 received the warning about the problem and interrupted takeoff.
A video made by a passenger shows smoke and flames coming out of the Airbus A319 wing, according to CNN affiliate Kriv. In the images, an onboard commissioner can be heard by asking passengers to remain in their seats, to which someone refuses and answers, “No, it’s on fire.”
The 104 passengers and five crew members aboard the aircraft were removed on the track using slides and stairs. They were resumed on a flight that night, a United Airlines spokesman told CNN. FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) said it will investigate the incident.
In less than a week, this is the third incident involving planes in the US, the first two with the record of the dead. On Wednesday (29), an American Airlines commercial jet collided with a military helicopter over the Potomac River, in a region near Ronald Reagan airport, 6 km from the country’s center of Washington; 67 people died.
Two days later, a small plane with six Mexicans on board crashed near a mall in Philadelphia, causing an explosion and fire. Everyone died. In addition to the victims on board, a person was killed by the impact of wreckage. The aircraft was carrying a girl who had received medical treatment in the US, her mother, crew members and the medical staff, according to the children’s hospital where the child was attended.
